He immediately started learning all that he could. It was after all, the Mojave
Desert, "so you just stayed indoors and practiced alot". While attending,
Antelope Valley High (home to another fellow artist, Frank Zappa) Myron
was turned onto some new sounds. These were Country, The Blues and Rock
& Roll . "All of it was cool to me. I just wanted to play. I used to
stay in my room for hours and hours playing along with Santana & Hendrix
records...anything that was melodic and cool". He started forming his own
bands to play at school functions, he played guitar in the school jazz
program and played clarinet/bass clarinet in the Symphonic & Marching
band. By the time he left school he was a seasoned bassist playing in "funk",
"rock" and "jazz" bands in the local clubs.
After graduation he immediately went to a college music program in Arizona but left after only one year. "They wanted me to be a teacher and I wanted to play...so I decided it was time to leave". However, before he left, he discovered the sounds of Miles Davis, "Return to Forever" (Chick Corea's new band) and "The Mahavishnu Orchestra" (John Mclaughlin's band), all while playing guitar in the college jazz band. "That stuff was incredible! It changed my whole outlook on things...These three individuals showed me that music is a powerful force and it illuminates life in many many ways. I believe that's the beauty of real art!"
