The film captures the immense impact that Wayne Shorter has had on Jazz spanning the 6 decades of his career, from his time with Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers, his years with Miles Davis Quintet, his ground breaking band Weather Report to his current creative explosion, The Wayne Shorter Quartet featuring John Patitucci, Brian Blade and Danilo Perez. We have had the honor of documenting Wayne’s life and music since 2006.

The story of Wayne Shorter as an artist and his astonishing impact on music is told through those who know him best – friends and artists he has worked with, both current and those from over the years; Herbie Hancock, Carlos Santana, Esperanza Spalding, the members of this quartet and other numerous luminaries share their personal experiences and impressions about Wayne. The film also showcases rare performances and a look into the creative process of one of the Great Legends of Jazz.
If you are not familiar with the music of Wayne Shorter, prepare to be blown away by the sounds that cascade from his saxophone and to be astonished by the complexity of his compositions. He literally challenges what we regard as Jazz. If you know his music, you know what I’m talking about and your appreciation will only be deepened as you learn more about his extraordinary determination and profound vision of life. He is truly a rare gem of a human being.
