Carlos to Speak and Perform at Peace Conference/Concert in Germany
On Saturday, June 30th, 2007, the Conference CHALLENGE FUTURE will take place in Bochum. This conference’s participants are Archbishop Desmond Tutu and Israel’s Vice-Prime Minister Shimon Peres, both Nobel Prize laureates, and Carlos Santana as well as the Lord Mayor of the City of Bochum, Dr. Ottilie Scholz.
The Conference will take place in the “Jahrhunderthalle“ in Bochum and will cover the following topics:
Dialogue of cultures and religions – joining the multicultural world
End of poverty – ways to justice in the world
Europe’s role in the world – Germany’s role in Europe
Strong children and women – strengthening children’s and women’s rights!
Protection of the creation – a new approach to environment
United Nations – uniting nations – acting jointly in solving international crises
Artists as peace makers
Among the guests of the Conference there will be politicians, scientists, intellectuals and artists, representatives of the media and – according to the Patrons’ special wish – students and young people. All together we count on more than 2000 participants coming from all parts of Europe.
Many outstanding and symbolical personalities of our times have confirmed their attending this Conference, among them Michael Gorbachev, Lech Walesa, Vice – Prime Minister of Israel Shimon Peres, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, the President of the German Parliament Norbert Lammert, Betty Williams, Federal Minister Sigmar Gabriel, HH Begum Aga Khan, the former Secretary General of the United Nations Boutros Boutros-Ghali, Prince Hassan of Jordan, Shashi Tharoor, former First Lady Jehan Sadat, former Empress Farah Diba, Avi Primor, Rudolf Dressler, Peter Maffay, Carlos Santana, Yusuf Islam, Wolfgang Niedecken and also Archbishop Fouad Twal from Jerusalem.
On Sunday, July 1st, a benefit concert will take place in the Ruhr Congress in Bochum. Numerous stars have already confirmed their performing during this event: Among them Carlos Santana, Peter Maffay, BAP, Yusuf Islam (Cat Stevens), Angelique Kidjo, Tina Dico and Heinz Rudolf Kunze.
The proceeds of this concert will support the humanitarian projects of the MILAGRO Foundation and of the Desmond Tutu Peace Center in South Africa.
