Carlos Santana To Publish His Autobiography

September 12, 2012, New York, NY—Michael Pietsch, Publisher of Little, Brown and Company, announced today that Little, Brown has acquired Carlos Santana’s highly anticipated autobiography for publication in 2014.

By the grace of God, dedication, and intense personal effort, Carlos Santana has reached unprecedented heights as a Mexican-born, internationally acclaimed artist. Carlos has spent his life as the embodiment of the dreams and aspirations of the invisible people all over this world. Being recognized by all who hear a single note is a God-given miracle. This gift has been bestowed on a select few: Bob Marley, John Lennon, Michael Jackson, Jimi Hendrix, John Coltrane, Alice Coltrane, Stevie Ray Vaughn, John McLaughlin, and, of course, Carlos Santana.

As he tells his story, Carlos’s highest wish is to help readers discover the sanctity, grace, and divinity in themselves. This book is a testament to triumph, victory, and success. Carlos will share his memories of the immortals of music history: Miles Davis, B.B. King, Freddie King, Albert King, Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, John Lee Hooker, Buddy Guy, Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Otis Rush, and Harry Belafonte, to name a few. Carlos will also share his stories about some of the people who have had a divine influence on his life, such as Cesar Chavez, Dolores Huerta, and Archbishop Desmond Tutu.

Carlos’s story begins at his birth in the town of Autlan, state of Jalisco, Mexico. Inspired by his father, Jose Santana, Carlos began his musical career at an early age as a violinist, culminating in his performance at Woodstock in 1969 alongside members of the music industry’s royalty.

Carlos Santana’s career has been an uplifting journey of success: he has won 10 Grammy Awards, 3 Latin Grammy Awards, and countless Gold and Platinum Awards for his work including a 15 Times Platinum Award for one of the most successful albums in history, Supernatural, an album which has sold more than 25 million CDs worldwide. Carlos was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998. He has been honored by BMI, CBS, the Billboard Century Award, the California Hall of Fame, the Grammy Hall of Fame, and VH-1; this is only a small sample of what Carlos Santana has meant to music history.

Little, Brown acquired the world rights from Jillian Manus at Manus & Associates. The book will be edited by Little, Brown Executive Editor John Parsley. It will be published in the United States simultaneously in English and Spanish as well as in an audio version of the book. Mr. Santana is represented by Michael Vrionis of Universal Tone Management.
