Milagro, Carlos Celebrate Martin Luther King’s Birthday with New School Garden in Marin City

On January 18, 2010, Carlos Santana and his Milagro Foundation, along with partner GrowingGreat, will celebrate Martin Luther King’s birthday with the installation of the new “GrowingGreat Marin City” school garden at Martin Luther King, Jr. Academy Middle School, in the Sausalito Marin City School District, as part of Marin City’s Martin Luther King, Jr. Day festivities.

Over 60 North Bay Conservation Corps members and volunteers will be on-site from 9AM-12PM installing garden boxes, building raised planting beds, laying out pathways and covering them with wood chips, planting bare root fruit trees and vines, and much more. In the heart of Marin County, California, Marin City is a community that is 94% low income with a critical need for accessibility to fresh vegetables and whole foods to promote healthy lifestyles. Lack of access to fresh, affordable food is highly correlated with poor health. The Milagro Foundation and GrowingGreat are working with the Sausalito Marin City School District to bring nutrition education and access to healthy foods to Marin City¹s children, families and community.
